Advancing research in craniosacral therapy
The Cranio Research Foundation was created to support, stimulate and connect research related to craniosacral therapy and related fields of body-based, relational and integrative healthcare.
There is a wealth of knowledge among craniosacral therapists around the world. Much of this knowledge lives in clinical practice, in careful observation, in years of hands-on experience, and in the subtle understanding that develops through working with clients over time. Yet much of this knowledge has not yet fully seen the light.
Sharing this knowledge is one important step. Building on it through high-quality scientific research is another.
Craniosacral therapy is practiced worldwide, yet the research base is still developing. We believe there is a need for more dialogue between clinical practice, lived experience, scientific inquiry and interdisciplinary perspectives.
Our aim is not to reduce craniosacral therapy to one single explanation. Rather, we want to create space for careful research into what happens in practice, how clients experience change, and how craniosacral therapy may contribute to health, regulation, embodiment and wellbeing.
What kind of research do we support?
We are interested in research that explores craniosacral therapy from different perspectives, including:
- clinical outcomes and client experience
- body awareness, perception and sensory processing
- nervous system regulation and trauma-informed practice
- therapeutic presence, touch and relational safety
- fascia, fluid dynamics and embodied communication
- qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method research
- interdisciplinary dialogue with medicine, psychology, neuroscience, osteopathy, psychotherapy, bodywork and education
We welcome both established researchers and practitioners who are curious about developing a research-informed approach to their work.
Interested in research collaboration?
We are open to hearing from researchers, practitioners, schools and organisations who want to contribute to the development of craniosacral research. Whether you have a research question, a project idea, a student thesis, a clinical observation or a wish to collaborate, we would be happy to hear from you. Contact us to explore possibilities for research collaboration.
